Susie Cheung is a Founding Member and Co-Convenor of APSA which was established in 2006. As a former Director of the Board and an Executive Secretary-General of the China Securitisation Forum (CSF), Susie has over the years been involved in promoting cross-border securitisation between Mainland China and Hong Kong.
Susie was the former Chief Legal Counsel and Company Secretary of the CUHK Medical Centre, a private teaching hospital wholly owned by the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). She participated in the planning and establishment of the hospital and advised on the implementation of the corporate governance structure for the Board. Susie is currently an Adjunct Professor at the CUHK Faculty of Medicine.
Prior to her role at the CUHK Medical Centre, Susie was the former General Counsel and Company Secretary of the Hong Kong Mortgage Corporation (HKMC), a corporation wholly owned by the Exchange Fund of the Hong Kong SAR under the supervision of the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA), for 19 years since its inception in 1997. Susie made significant contributions to the development of the local debt and mortgage-backed securities markets in Hong Kong during her term as its General Counsel. Susie was honoured to have served as Company Secretary of the HKMC under 4 successive Financial Secretaries of Hong Kong who, ex officio, acted as Chairman of the Board, and 2 successive Chief Executives of the HKMA who acted as its Deputy Chairman.
Susie received the “Outstanding Achievement – Asia Women in Business Law Awards 2012” in recognition of the contributions she had made to the debt and securitisation markets in Hong Kong, and the robust legal framework which she initiated under the HKMC’s Reverse Mortgage Programme for the protection of the senior borrowers.
Susie is qualified as a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of England and Wales, and also the High Court of the Hong Kong SAR. Susie obtained her LL. B and LL.M from University College London. She is a Fellow of the UK and the Hong Kong Chartered Governance Institute and the Institute of Directors, and an Honorary Fellow of the Asian Institute of International Financial Law. Susie is a Director and Company Secretary of the Project Mingde Foundation, a charitable entity set up in connection with the University of Hong Kong (HKU) to provide experiential learning to HKU students working on projects in underdeveloped countries.
