Nigel joined Sompo in 2014 and has held a number of Executive roles at Sompo. Currently Nigel’s titles include: Head of Global M&A, Group Chief Value Communications Officer, Senior Executive Vice President and Executive Officer.
Notable transactions at Sompo include sourcing and leading the acquisition of Endurance ($6.3bn), the disposal of Canopius, a Lloyds syndicate ($1bn) and the recent acquisition of a US crop insurer from CGB. Nigel is Chairman of Sompo’s M&A Committee.
Nigel’s career spans 40 years advising on transactions both in the UK and on the international stage. He graduated in Law from Leeds University and subsequently qualified as a Barrister and then later a Solicitor.
His experience before joining Sompo covers:
Advisory work in two major firms of Chartered Accountants, primarily in the sphere of international tax structuring, corporate finance and M&A;
Legal practice having been a partner in 3 City of London law practices, as a senior corporate commercial lawyer;
Senior positions held in the UK insurance industry including at Royal Insurance, Prudential, Scottish Amicable and J.Rothschild; and
Running his own law firm, Minories Law.
