Elton Cheung

Elton has close to 30 years of experience in investments, finance, banking and related businesses with specialist expertise in corporate governance, strategic development and risk management, particularly in Asia including the Greater China Region.

Elton is currently a Managing Partner with VMS Group, an Asia-based investment firm which specialises in allocating capital for some of the largest families in the region, focusing on alternative investments. He joined VMS Group in 2021, became a Partner in 2022 and a Managing Partner in 2024.

From 2018 to 2020, Elton was a Managing Partner and the Chief Executive Officer of JIDA Capital Partners which managed a RMB3.8billion infrastructure fund focused on renewable energy investments. Elton was instrumental in structuring and completing the team’s spin-off and acquisition by the investment management arm of a global insurance group in 2020.

Prior to that, Elton was with Morgan Stanley for over 10 years, as a Managing Director and Chief Operating Officer for China between 2015 and 2017 when he oversaw the front-to-back operations of all business platforms in China, as well as being responsible for risk management decisions across all risk disciplines, internal infrastructure management, and other operational matters for the country.

Prior to joining Morgan Stanley in 2006, Elton practiced law with some of the largest international law firms.

In addition to his full-time executive role, Elton currently sits on the Board of Directors of dual-listed Bank of Qingdao (002948.SZ and 03866.HK) as an Independent Non-Executive Director, and serves as the chair of the Nomination Committee, and a member of the Remuneration Committee and the Audit Committee.

Elton is also a member of the Steering Committee for both the Marine Ecology Enhancement Fund and the Fisheries Enhancement Fund, established by the Hong Kong Airport Authority for enhancing the marine environment for the benefit of marine ecology and fisheries resources in the vicinity of the Hong Kong International Airport.

Elton holds a Bachelor of Laws (Hons) and a Bachelor of Economics from the University of Sydney.
