Charles Chang
Managing Director Greater China Country Lead, Corporates
Charles Chang is S&P’s Managing Director and Greater China Country Lead for Corporate Ratings. He leads S&P’s research on Chinese corporates, serves on the firms’ rating and risk committees in APAC, and faces issuers, investors, regulators, and the media on behalf of S&P globally.
Before S&P, Charles spent four years at BNP Paribas and five years at Credit Suisse as the Head of Asia Credit Research, where he covered China Property, LGFV and Distressed and led teams that covered High Yield, Investment Grade, Sovereigns and CDS across EM and Frontier Asia. Prior to Credit Suisse, Charles worked at Bank of America Merrill Lynch, as the Lead Fixed Income Analyst on China Property and North Asia Investment Grade; at J.P. Morgan, in Credit Syndicate and Credit Structuring; and at Fitch Ratings, where he led coverage teams on Power, Oil & Gas, and Coal, China and Taiwan, and CLO, ABS, and NPL transactions.
Charles began his career at the World Bank in Washington DC as a junior economist focused on Asia, Latin America, and Eastern Europe. He received a M.A. in International Finance and Economics from the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies, and a B.S. in Managerial Economics and a B.A. in International Relations from the University of California at Davis. He is based in Hong Kong.
